Pink Out at Kentucky Oaks
Churchill Downs Friday, April 30, 2010
Spring is a beautiful and exciting season in Kentucky, a time to showcase one of our state’s signature industries and one of our special projects, Horses and HopeSM, to raise breast cancer awareness. I am pleased to join the Kentucky Cancer Program to announce several upcoming pink events.
Survivor Parade
Last year’s most memorable event, the Survivor Parade, is returning to the Kentucky Oaks! Breast cancer survivors dressed in pink will walk around the track in front of over 100,000 race fans to lead off the 136th race when the fillies run for the lilies! This year, Kentucky Oaks fans will have the opportunity to nominate and vote for the breast cancer survivors who will walk in the parade. Nominations will be accepted through www.KentuckyOaks.com beginning February 19 and continuing through March 11. Fans will vote between March 12 and March 26, and the winners will be announced on April 2. The 136 breast cancer survivors with the most votes will be invited to participate in the Survivor Parade and will receive two (2) Clubhouse tickets to the Kentucky Oaks along with lunch compliments of Churchill Downs. (Travel and hotel accommodations will be the responsibility of the survivor.)
Clubhouse Tickets for Breast Cancer Survivors
Seats have been reserved in the Clubhouse at Churchill Downs for breast cancer survivors for Pink Out at the Kentucky Oaks. Tickets for survivors and guests are $85 each, and can be purchased via the following website: tickets.churchilldowns.com/horsesandhope (Limited Seating-Reserve Now)
Kentucky Oaks Lily Drinks
Pink Lilies are offered in souvenir glasses at the Kentucky Oaks. Churchill Downs will donate $1 from each drink to Horses and HopeSM to support breast cancer outreach programs for Kentucky’s horse industry workers.
Fashion Contest
Ladies of all ages dressed in their pink Oaks finery can compete for the right to rule the runway and to win a VIP trip to IMG’s Fashion Week in New York City in fall 2010. The contest will be held on the pink carpet at Gate 10 after Race 5 (approximately 12:45 pm), and the finalists will be showcased in the Aristides Garden live on the Bravo telecast.
Live Television Coverage of Kentucky Oaks: 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Breast cancer survivors who cannot travel to Churchill Downs are encouraged to join friends, family, and other survivors at home to view the festivities. Bravo will televise the Kentucky Oaks, covering all breast cancer events at the track including the Survivor Parade and the Fashion Contest.
